PERKASA Jauhari Sdn Bhd, the turnkey contractor which designed and built the air traffic control tower at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (klia2), has implemented Schneider Electric’s Uniflair Precision Air Conditioning solution to keep the mission-critical equipment running at optimum.
“The implementation of Schneider Electric’s Uniflair Precision Air Conditioning solutions is in line with Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd’s (MAHB) commitment to investing in state-of-the-art technologies to make our international airports not only world-class, but energy-efficient too,” said MAHB managing director Badlisham Ghazali.

The air traffic control tower plays a critical role in the operations of a busy airport as it ensures a safe, orderly, and efficient flow of air traffic including departure and arrival clearances, aircraft identification, altitudes and routes of flight mapping, and aircraft taxiing and runway management, among others.
To accomplish these critical functions safely and expeditiously, the control tower is dependent on real-time data precisely calculated by a host of computer equipment, Schneider Electric said in a statement.
Computers produce heat and together with the humidity in the air-conditioned IT room, create sub-optimal conditions for IT operations. Even a slight temperature and/ or humidity anomaly can produce negative effects ranging from inaccurate calculations for controllers, data corruption, or even a complete system shutdown, it added.
A mission critical operation like air traffic control cannot afford any compromise to its availability, reliability and overall performance.
The Uniflair by Schneider Electric solution, which was implemented in the klia2 control tower’s IT room, utilises precision air-conditioning technologies to maintain temperature and humidity conditions within extremely tight tolerances, even when the heat load fluctuates.
“We not only completed the world’s tallest air traffic control tower ahead of schedule, but delivered an energy-efficient project,” declared Perkasa Jauhari director Patrick Chong.

The 141.3 metre high klia2 air traffic control tower is recognised by the Guinness World Records as tallest in the world, Schneider Electric said.
